The most frequent self-description is a flat assertion of knowing without any accompanying mental picture. Knowledge is there, but the screen is blank.

Concepts as the medium — neither words nor pictures
Several posters distinguish "concept" thinking from both language and imagery, reaching for metaphors like raw thought, text-based browsers, or silent daydream.

Words and concepts together — but silently
A second cluster reports an inner monologue or "text/voice" stream that runs alongside conceptual thought, while still being fully image-free. Several people emphasise that the words are not heard.

When pressed to describe the experience to non-aphants, posters reach for paradoxical phrasings — most strikingly the Daredevil comparison.

Across the years
The "I just know" / "concepts not images" framing appears consistently from 2018 through 2026, with no obvious shift in vocabulary. Volume is heaviest in 2020–2021 (5 and 9 chunks) — the years when the sub gained mass attention — and again in 2025 (6 chunks). The 2018 and 2019 chunks already use the same triad of "concepts," "facts," and "knowing"; the 2026 chunks restate it almost word-for-word. The recurring split between aphants who do and don't have an inner monologue is also stable across the period.
